Farewell My Concubine was created and inspired by my mom and my mom’s passionate love for a Hong-Kong singer-actor, Cheung Kwok-win. The piece tells the process of becoming an actor in the Beijing Opera house. As these actors need flexibility, accumulate certain singing voices, acting training, and acquire such high-level skills, they begin from a young age. The piece takes the viewers on the actors journey since the preparation from a young age all the way to the moment onstage.
